With only 400 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild, Taronga Zoo needed a concept for Zoofari 2010 that would capture the vulnerability of the Tiger’s existence.

As the invitation was opened, the 400 Tigers were presented as a collection of gold silhouettes – the invitee literally holding the entire population of wild Sumatran Tigers in their hands. We used gold and black foiling on black card to represent the distinct colouring of the Tiger. An illustrated face of the Sumatran Tiger was used as a motif for the event, printed on invitations, programs and decor.

The event raised a total of $430,000 that contributed to the continued protection and conservation of the endangered species.

The invitation was published in the 2012 book, Design: Paper, distributed by Rockport; and featured on Design blogs For Print Only and From Up North.

Special thanks to Event Emporium for their photography from the night.
